Paediatric First Aid

Feb 3, 2026 | News

At Millie’s House, your child’s safety and wellbeing are always our top priority. Children are naturally curious and active, and while minor accidents can happen, having the right training in place ensures they are cared for quickly, calmly and confidently.

That’s why all members of our team are fully Paediatric First Aid trained, giving parents peace of mind that their child is in safe and capable hands every day.

Why Paediatric First Aid Is Important

Children’s bodies are still developing and can react differently in emergency situations. Paediatric first aid training ensures adults know how to respond in a way that is safe and age-appropriate.

Paediatric first aid can:

  • Save a child’s life
  • Prevent injuries from becoming more serious
  • Help adults stay calm and act quickly in an emergency

How Paediatric First Aid Differs From Adult First Aid

Paediatric first aid uses techniques designed specifically for babies and young children, including:

  • Gentler techniques using less pressure
  • Different CPR hand positions and ratios
  • Age-appropriate responses for infants and children

First Aid You Can Trust

Our team are trained to respond to a wide range of situations that may occur in early years settings, including:

  • Choking – using age-appropriate techniques such as encouraging coughing, back blows or chest thrusts
  • CPR – combining chest compressions and rescue breaths if a child is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Bleeding – applying gentle pressure and seeking medical help when needed
  • Burns and scalds – cooling under cool running water for 20 minutes and covering with a clean dressing
  • Head injuries – monitoring symptoms and seeking medical advice if concerns arise
  • Fever and febrile seizures – keeping the child comfortable and calling emergency services if a seizure lasts longer than five minutes
  • Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis – recognising symptoms, using prescribed medication and calling emergency services immediately

Ongoing Training and Partnership with Parents

Our staff regularly refresh their paediatric first aid training and stay up to date with best practice. In January 2026 our Westminster setting hosted staff from across our group for a refresher training course.

We also work closely with parents to understand each child’s individual medical needs and care plans.

If you would like more information about our paediatric first aid training or safety procedures at Millie’s House, please speak to one of our Nursery Managers – we are always happy to help.
